Barbuda
is a small island in the Caribbean, close to Antigua. The small,
family-run resort where I stayed, Coco Point Lodge, was founded in 1960.
I was told that one of the founders of Coco Point was a pilot for Pan Am. He flew all over the world looking at beaches and decided that Barbuda was the most beautiful beach he could find. So he bought 164 acres on a secluded peninsula. It is still hard to get there - guests arrive by prop plane from Antigua onto an unlit grass landing strip that looks like a long soccer field.
It is the
closest I've come to spending a week on a deserted island.
Some really big boats were anchored just off the beach.
We are on the plane in the shadow!
